In 2013, I weighed 114 lbs.
I had started using My Fitness Pal in 2010 in an attempt to lose the baby weight I’d accumulated over the previous 2 years. My starting weight on November 7, 2010 was 153.3 lbs.
(Coincidentally, that was my weight last January when I started with Beachbody)
I was unfaithful with My Fitness Pal for a few years but in January 2013, I started to use it faithfully. I tracked every calorie that went in my mouth and every minute I spent on the treadmill or elliptical.
I started to lose the weight FAST and was enjoying the compliments I was receiving. But I didn’t feel happy, confident, or content yet… so I kept going.
I would eat the bare minimum calories that I needed during the day to keep me sustained and, at night, I’d spend 1 to 2 hours at the gym on the cardio machines, working to bring up my calorie deficit.
On My Fitness Pal, at the end of the day when you click Submit, it brings up a little message that says “If every day were like today, in 5 weeks you’d weigh XXX lbs” My favourite thing became when it told me I’d weigh under 120 lbs, then, under 110 lbs.
I started focusing on food with the lowest calories (re: Diet Pop) instead of focusing on food with the best nutrition. Then, I’d be starving and hypoglycemic by mid-afternoon and, because my body was craving the quick glucose for energy, I’d binge eat something sweet and terrible.
I, somehow, kept up this lifestyle for almost a year before I quit. This way of life is not sustainable and caused irreparable damage to my body.
It was another 2 years before I realized that I had been dealing with an eating disorder.
It wasn’t until my coach talked to me about my weight goal for this journey that I realized what had been going on. I shared with her that I know there is a certain weight that my body is healthy at and once I’ve reached that, I can’t focus on the numbers any more for fear that I will turn into that obsessed girl again.
Thankfully, now, I’ve learned the PROPER way to fuel my body thanks to the portion control system, and I no longer count calories. I’ve also learned the PROPER way to exercise and make my body STRONG, not skinny.
An average food day for me NOW looks like this:
B: 1 Yellow of Oatmeal with 1/2 Purple of Raspberries + 2 Eggs (1 Red)
S1: 1 Green Apple (1 Purple) + 1 Orange of Peanuts
L: 1 Yellow of Corn Tortillas (2), 2 Eggs (1 Red), 2 Mushrooms (1/2 Green), 2 slices marble cheese (1 Blue)
S2: Cafe Latte Shakeology (2) + 1 Green of Spinach + 1 Banana (2 Purple)
D: 1 Red of Chicken, 2 Greens of Broccoli
S3: Celery (1 Green) + 1Tbsp Peanut Butter
This is over 1500 calories of healthy, real, natural food that fuels my body AND has helped me lose over 20 lbs in the past year.
In 2017, I weigh 130 lbs and I’m happy, strong, and confident.
